Secondary Drama (12 - 17 yrs)

We aim to build confidence, communication skills, fluency of speech and the development of the imagination.

Secondary drama classes are based on mime, movement, voice work, advanced improvisation techniques, text analysis, characterisation, directing and stage techniques. Students are encouraged to develop their understanding and enjoyment of acting through practical lessons, script work, improvisation and performance.

Senior Drama classes focus more on the individual as an actor, however, ensemble work still plays a large part in exploration. Students look at how they can develop their theatre skills and understanding of communicating to an audience. We explore the specific techniques of practitioners such as Grotowski and Stanislavski as well as exploring different genres such as Verbatim and physical theatre. We continue to work on improving speech, movement and posture, which we believe are essential for our students in the way they communicate in life.

Students are also prepared for optional Feis Maitiu competitions and LAMDA exams. Students also have an opportunity to participate in our annual musical and pantomime.

A full scale drama production is produced annually in the Everyman Theatre for all primary and secondary drama students.
