Primary Musical Theatre

Our classes are designed for primary school students and include tuition in all the elements of performance including drama, dance and singing. The children work on specially selected songs and dances to build on their musicality, as well as their rhythm and co-ordination. Drama games are played in order, to enhance confidence and basic script work is used to develop performance skills and vocal technique.

We offer a broad and soft introduction to develop the following skills; an understanding of situation, focus and engaging with the song, meaning of words, mood of the song, audibility, tongue and lip muscularity, use of the performance space, use of movement, understanding of melody and rhythm.

The students will learn to perform classics from West End and Broadway musicals such as Matilda, Annie, Oliver, The Sound of Music and more.

We encourage all students to participate in solo and group work in Feis Maitiu and all students from 7 years upwards participate in Musical Theatre exams with The London College of Music and Dramatic Art.

All Musical Theatre students perform in our annual pantomime in the Firkin Crane in January and our end of year show ‘Applause’ at Cork Opera House in May.
