Dear students and parents,

Welcome to a new and exciting year at Montfort College.

New classes for the coming year include ballet, tap dance, hip hop, group and individual singing, Ballet Babies and acting for the camera workshops. In addition we will run a series of West End and drama workshops throughout the year.

We will stage ‘Joseph & His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ in the Everyman Theatre from the 22nd – 24th Oct with a cast of over 100. We are looking for children between 5 – 8 yrs who are interested in participating in the show.  The children will perform three numbers with the character of Joseph including 'Any Dream Will Do' and 'Close Every Door'. For rehearsals we will only need to see the children at weekends - either Saturday or Sunday. If you are interested please email with your child's name, age and telephone number. An informal group audition will be required for all children.

Last year’s panto was an enormous success so this year we have opted to extend the run to 10 performances. Auditions will be held on the 27th Oct. All mini Montforts, primary Musical Theatre and primary dance students will get an opportunity to perform in the show. This year the students will perform two contrasting pieces, one in Act 1 and another in Act 2.  More details to follow.

Another date for your diary is the 31st May 2014 for our annual end of year song and dance extravaganza at Cork Opera House where all the dance and Musical Theatre students will get an opportunity to perform.  This year we will run a 2.30pm and a 7.30pm show. Each class will appear in one show.

Your first class is FREE! We would encourage anyone who has an interest in dance to take extra classes in order to improve their skill and technique. With that in mind we are offering the following classes this year;
Performance Dance (9-11 yrs)  5.30 -6.30  Thursday
Performance Dance (12 -15yrs)  6.30 - 7.30 Thursday
Performance Dance advanced  7.30 - 8.30  Thursday.
We are extremely fortunate to have secured the talent of David O’ Connor for this class. David was the choreographer of ‘Grease’ in the Opera House and has choreographed the Cork Opera House panto for the past 4 years.  This class is ‘Pay as you go’ €8 per week.

Primary Tap (7 – 11 yrs)             6.00 - 7.00 Friday
Secondary Tap (12 upwards)    7.00 - 8.00 Friday

Secondary Ballet                       6.30 - 7.30  Friday

Mini Montforts Ballet and Primary Ballet are also available on various days and times in Penrose Wharf. Please consult the Classfinder on our website.

We are currently finalising details of an exciting drama showcase for our drama students. More details to follow in the coming weeks.

We are delighted to launch our new singing academy under the guidance of international opera star Ms. Majella Cullagh and star of ‘Celtic Woman’ Ms. Sarah Burke-Hochstedler.
Classes are held in Penrose Wharf from Monday - Thursday. Classes are on a one to one basis, or small group singing and the musical styles available are pop, musical theatre, traditional Irish and classical. The year will culminate with a performance in the Half Moon Theatre for family and friends and an invited audience of industry professionals. This is a must for anyone who has an interest in singing.

Our hugely successful choir will once again perform in the Cork Choral Festival and perform ‘Broadway Kidz’ for 3 nights in the Half Moon Theatre in April. In addition the choir have been asked to perform in the ’Sunday Songbook’ in the Everyman in October and various other performances are planned for the year ahead. The minimum age to join is 9 yrs and by audition only. If you are interested please contact Trevor on to arrange an audition.

Throughout the year all students will be prepared for acting, speaking of verse and prose and Musical Theatre exams with the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. Dance students will be prepared for free style, tap, ballet and theatre craft exams with the International Dance Teachers Association. Our singing students will be prepared for exams with the Royal Irish Academy of Music. While these exams are not compulsory we feel they are necessary for the development of each student.

That's just some of what we have planned for our students for the coming year! We will be sending emails once a month letting you know about what’s happening in the college. Like us on Facebook to keep abreast of all the latest developments!

We hope you have a fun filled and exciting year with Montfort.

Best regards

Eileen Nolan & Trevor Ryan
