Secondary Musical Theatre

Our senior Musical Theatre classes focus on advancing skills, increasing confidence and developing dynamic, confident young performers.

The classes take Musical Theatre to the next level.  We aim to stretch and challenge our students in a professional and disciplined theatrical environment.  This enables each student to build on their own talents and gain confidence in performance.

The classes include training in the major disciplines of drama, dance and singing and by teaching these elements together we are able to produce high quality pieces of musical theatre.

Our Musical Theatre classes offer a broad introduction to musical theatre theory and practical skills.  We look at skills such as projection, audibility, clarity, use of performance space, and emotion and engagement with the theme.

We also look to developing the following skills; an understanding of situation, focus and engaging with the song, meaning of words, mood of the song, audibility, tongue and lip muscularity, use of the performance space, use of Movement, understanding of melody and rhythm.

We encourage all students to participate in solo and group work in Feis Maitiu and all students from 7 years upwards participate in Musical Theatre exams with The London College of Music and Dramatic Art.

All Musical Theatre students perform in our annual pantomime in the Firkin Crane in January and our end of year show ‘Applause’ at Cork Opera House in May.
