Dance

The wide variety of dance classes we offer will help in strengthening posture, developing balance, as well as co-ordination and basic rhythm.

Students will learn dance styles through fun, pop music as well as musical theatre and Disney songs. Students will participate in choreographed routines that are designed to increase observation and retention skills and build an ability to work within a structured group.

All dance classes are designed, appropriate to age level to technically develop students to reach their full potential whether on a recreational or professional level.

Our staff teach our students not only basic dance steps and creative movement syllabus work, but peer interaction. For many of our younger students this is the first group activity where they have the chance to interact with others their own age and learn the dynamics of being in a group which we believe is an important life skill. Students learn to work with each other and about personal space. All these skills are taught while enjoying the beauty and thrills of dance.

As our students develop and progress they will spend time developing technique and focusing on their particular style of dance. Our dance classes will increase in difficulty and become a great tool for exercise and personal fitness as well as increasing flexibility and improving balance and coordination. Our aim is to make dance fun and enjoyable for all our students and keep them interested, so they are ready and willing to learn new things. Most of the time our young dancers don’t even realise they learning!

All of our dancers are given plenty of opportunities to perform in our annual musical, our Christmas pantomime and our end of year showcase 'Applause' in Cork Opera House.

IDTA DANCE EXAMS

Our dance classes are taught by qualified teachers, using the I.D.T.A. (International Dance Teachers Assocation) method and syllabus. The International Dance Teachers Association (I.D.T.A.) was founded in 1967 by the amalgamation of several dance societies. It is a non-profit making organisation of teachers for whom it provides a comprehensive examination service. It is responsible for more examinations in dance then any other similar organisation in the world. The Montfort College of Performing Arts is proud to be a member of this organisation and holds its own I.D.T.A. Examinations once a year.
